“Tort Reform - Is It Necessary,” Spartanburg Herald Journal, Sunday, June 9, 2002 - Mr. Knie was asked to prepare an article involving Tort Reform as a feature article in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. The article was later republished in the South Carolina Trial Lawyer Bulletin. In part, Mr. Knie was quoted as saying, “For the past 225 years, we, as consumers, taxpayers, parents and patients, have consistently demanded a high standard of safety in our products and services available in our great country. As a result, we generally enjoy safe cars, safe work environments, honest lending practices, insurance with adequate coverage and quality medical care. The court system is the watch dog protecting us from these big companies when those who provide goods and services fail to meet our standards causing financial losses, injury or death.
